The short version
Pinset works on your Mac. What you type or say to it never leaves your Mac: speech is turned into text on your Mac, and Apple Intelligence runs on your Mac only (Pinset never uses Apple's cloud model). No account, no analytics, no advertising trackers. We sell nothing about you. When you buy, our payment provider Dodo Payments handles the purchase; we keep only a record that a seat was sold, never your name or email.
The Pinset app
Stays on your Mac, never sent to us: what you type or say, the fixes you're shown, the settings you change, the fixes you save with Teach Pinset, and a private count of how many free fixes you've used.
The only times the app goes online, always to getpinset.com:
- Updates. It checks whether a newer Pinset exists, which is also how new fixes arrive. The request carries only the app's version.
- Your licence. When you unlock Pinset, it sends your licence key and a label for this Mac, made of the Mac's model and a random code (never your Mac's name, which often contains your own). We pass these to Dodo Payments to check the key, and about once a week Pinset checks again when you're online. The answer we pass back to the app is only "valid" or "not valid".
Like any website, getpinset.com briefly sees the internet address these requests come from. We don't keep it with anything else.
Crash reports are off unless you turn them on in Pinset's settings. If you do, a crash sends what broke and where, the Pinset and macOS versions and the Mac model to Sentry, our error-report service. Never what you typed or said.
The permissions Pinset asks for
Each is asked for only when you first use the feature that needs it, and each is yours to turn off in System Settings.
- Microphone and Speech Recognition: only while you're speaking to Pinset. Speech is turned into text on your Mac; no audio is stored or sent.
- Input Monitoring: so a double-tap of Control (or the key you choose) opens Pinset. It watches only those modifier keys, never what you type.
- Accessibility: for "Show me", which draws a ring around the right switch in System Settings.
- Automation (System Events): only for the switches that need it, such as Dark Mode, and only when you flip them.
Pinset changes a setting only when you flip a switch or click Run, and every change has Undo. It never changes privacy or security settings, and it never sees your password: where macOS needs one, macOS asks you itself.
Buying Pinset
Dodo Payments is the merchant of record: it sells Pinset to you, takes the payment, handles sales tax and VAT, sends your receipt and emails your licence key. You give your email, name, country and payment details on Dodo's own checkout page, never ours, and Dodo handles them under its privacy policy.
What we store about each sale: Dodo's payment number, which price it was, the amount and currency, the date, and whether it was refunded or disputed. That's what powers the "seats sold" counter. We don't copy your name or email anywhere. We can see them in Dodo's dashboard, and look only to help you with your licence or a refund.
This website
No analytics, no cookies, no advertising trackers. Fonts load from Google Fonts, which sees your internet address when it serves them. The seats-sold counter asks our database (Supabase) for one number.
The demo runs in your browser: what you type into it stays there. If you use the demo's microphone button, your browser's own speech service turns your voice into text (Chrome sends the audio to Google for this, Safari to Apple). We never receive the audio or the text.
If you email us
Mail to hello@getpinset.com arrives in our Gmail inbox. We use it only to answer you, and we never add you to a mailing list. Pinset sends no newsletters.
Who handles what
- Dodo Payments: checkout, receipts, licence keys, refunds.
- Vercel: hosts this website, the app downloads and the licence check.
- Supabase: our database, holding only the sales record above.
- Sentry: crash reports, only if you turn them on.
- Namecheap and Google (Gmail): our domain and email.
- Google Fonts: the website's fonts.
Your choices
Everything Pinset keeps on your Mac goes when you delete the app and its folder in ~/Library/Application Support/Pinset. To ask what we hold about you, or to have it deleted, write to hello@getpinset.com. Dodo keeps its own records of payments, which tax law requires it to keep.
Changes
If what Pinset collects changes (for example if we ever add analytics), we'll update this page and its date before the change goes live.
