How PinSet works and who makes it
PinSet is a Mac menu-bar app. Press ⌃ ⌥ Space, type or say what's wrong in plain words, and PinSet shows the cause in one line, then opens the exact setting in System Settings. Show me draws a gold ring around the switch. On macOS 27, some switches can be flipped right inside PinSet, with Undo.
Who makes it
PinSet is made by an independent developer: one person, not a company with a team. Email hello@getpinset.com and that person replies, usually within a day.
Signed and notarised by Apple
The app is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarised by Apple, which means Apple scanned it for malware. It is sold directly from this website, not through the Mac App Store.
It needs macOS 26 Tahoe or macOS 27 Golden Gate. It runs on Apple silicon Macs, and on Intel Macs with macOS 26. English only for now.
What stays on your Mac
- Everything you type or say, the fixes you're shown and the settings you change. Speech is turned into text on your Mac.
- Apple Intelligence, where PinSet uses it, runs on your Mac only. It only picks between fixes that are already in PinSet's list; it never writes a fix.
- No account and no analytics in the app.
The app goes online for three things only: checking for updates (which is also how new fixes arrive) and checking your licence key, both with getpinset.com, and crash reports to our error-report service, only if you turn them on. Every detail is on the privacy page and the permissions page.
How the 2,400+ fixes are checked
- Each fix is written from Apple's own support pages. Where a fix has one, its web page links to the Apple Support page it comes from.
- Every System Settings path is checked against the labels macOS 26 and macOS 27 actually show.
- Fixes are reviewed before they ship, and PinSet is tested on 1,082 Mac questions in everyday words.
- PinSet never changes passwords, privacy permissions, FileVault or Gatekeeper. For those it opens the right page and points.
Terminal commands
Some fixes include a Terminal command for people who want one. PinSet shows the full command with a Copy button, and the command to undo it where there is one. There is no Run button: PinSet never runs Terminal commands. Commands that need your admin password (sudo) are marked, so you know to paste them yourself; PinSet never runs sudo.
Price
Free for the first 25, then $0.99, rising $1 every 50 copies, to $9.99. One-time, no subscription. Every copy starts with 7 free fixes, and there is a 14-day refund.
