Stop your iPhone's Focus from turning on Do Not Disturb on your Mac

Why it happens

Share across devices keeps your Focus the same on every Apple device signed in with your Apple Account. It's handy when you want one switch for everything. But it also means a Sleep Focus on your phone at night, or Do Not Disturb in a meeting, silences your Mac as well.

How to fix it

1. Open the Apple menu, choose System Settings, and click Focus in the sidebar.

2. Turn off Share across devices, below the list of Focuses. If your Mac asks you to confirm, accept it.

3. On your iPhone, open Settings, tap Focus and turn off the share across devices switch there too. That keeps your iPhone from following your Mac as well.

4. Test it: turn on Do Not Disturb on one device from Control Center. The other should stay as it was.

Still not fixed?

1. If your Mac still goes quiet at certain times, it may have its own schedule. Open the Focus, click Set a Schedule and turn off any times or app triggers you don't want.

2. Check an iPad or second Mac on the same Apple Account. Any device with Share across devices on can still pass its Focus to the others that have it on.

3. Need some apps or people to reach you during a Focus? Add them under Allowed People and Allowed Apps in that Focus instead of turning it off.

4. If a Focus still copies across after you've turned sharing off on every device and restarted them, contact Apple Support.
