Capture a whole web page on your Mac, top to bottom

Why it happens

Mac screenshots capture only what's on screen at that moment, so a long page needs another route. Safari's Export as PDF saves the full page, including the parts you'd have to scroll to see. Text in the PDF stays sharp, and you can still select and copy it.

How to fix it

1. Open the page in Safari and scroll down to the end once. Some pages load pictures only as you scroll, so this makes sure they're all there.

2. Choose File > Export as PDF….

3. Give the file a name, pick a folder, and click Save.

4. Open the PDF to check it. It opens in Preview, where you can scroll the whole page.

Still not fixed?

1. Only need what's on screen? Press Shift-Command-4 and drag across that part. Or press Shift-Command-4, then Space, and click a window to capture all of it.

2. Ads or menus in the way? Choose View > Show Reader first, when Safari offers it, then export. You get just the article.

3. If the PDF comes out cut off or blank, press Command-P instead, open the PDF pop-up at the bottom of the Print window, and choose Save as PDF.

4. If Safari can't export or print any page, even simple ones, install updates in Software Update. If it still fails, contact Apple Support.
