Answer "Trust This Computer?" when you connect your iPhone to a Mac
Quick answer
Unlock your iPhone, tap Trust and enter its passcode. Then, on the Mac, select the iPhone in the Finder sidebar and click Trust.
Why it happens
Your iPhone asks before it lets a computer reach its photos, files and backups over the cable. Saying Trust lets that Mac sync, back up and import from the phone. It's a safety check, so it only appears when the iPhone is unlocked.
How to fix it
Connect your iPhone to the Mac with a cable, and unlock the iPhone with Face ID, Touch ID or its passcode.
When Trust This Computer? appears on the iPhone, tap Trust, then enter your iPhone passcode.
On the Mac, open a Finder window and click your iPhone in the sidebar. If Finder asks, click Trust.
You can now sync, back up and import photos. Next time you connect, the iPhone won't ask again.
Tapped Don't Trust by mistake? Unplug the cable and plug it back in. The question appears again.
Still not fixed?
No question appears at all? Unlock the iPhone first, then plug it in. Try a different cable and another USB port, and restart both the iPhone and the Mac.
iPhone missing from the Finder sidebar? Open Finder > Settings, click Sidebar and tick CDs, DVDs, and iOS Devices.
Finder›Settings…›Sidebar
Want to stop trusting every computer you've said yes to? On the iPhone, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Location & Privacy. Apps will ask again for location and privacy access.
If the iPhone charges but never appears in Finder, even with several cables and ports, contact Apple Support. The port on either device may need a hardware repair.
Questions people ask
Is it safe to tap Trust This Computer on my iPhone?
Yes, for your own Mac. Only trust computers you own or know, because a trusted computer can reach your iPhone's data over the cable.
How do I untrust a computer on my iPhone?
Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Location & Privacy. That clears every trusted computer.
Why doesn't my iPhone ask to trust my Mac?
It only asks while it's unlocked. Unlock it, then reconnect with a working cable.
