How to uninstall an app on a Mac
Quick answer
Open Finder, click Applications, Control-click the app and choose Move to Trash. Then empty the Trash.
Why it happens
On a Mac, most apps are a single package in the Applications folder. Moving that package to the Trash removes the app, so there is no separate uninstall wizard. A few big apps, often from antivirus or audio companies, come with their own uninstaller, and that's the better choice for them.
How to fix it
Quit the app first if it's open, with Command-Q.
Open Finder from the Dock and click Applications in the sidebar.
Finder›Applications
Control-click the app (or click with two fingers on the trackpad) and choose Move to Trash. Type your password if asked.
Control-click the Trash at the right end of the Dock and choose Empty Trash. This step can't be undone, so check nothing else in there is needed.
If the app came with an uninstaller, often inside its folder in Applications, run that instead. It removes extra parts the Trash won't.
Still not fixed?
If the Mac says the app is open or in use, quit it and try again. If it still refuses, switch off its item in Login Items & Extensions or restart, then try once more.

Apps from the App Store can be removed the same way. You can download them again later for free.
Small settings files may stay behind. They're harmless, and the developer's website usually explains how to remove them if you want a fully clean slate.
If an app you installed still won't delete after a restart, ask its developer for help, or contact Apple Support.
Questions people ask
Where is Add or Remove Programs on a Mac?
There isn't one. To remove an app, drag it from Applications in Finder to the Trash, then empty the Trash.
Does moving an app to the Trash fully uninstall it?
For most apps, yes. A few small settings files can stay behind, and apps with their own uninstaller should use that instead.
Why can't I move an app to the Trash?
It's probably still open or running in the background. Quit it, turn off its login item, or restart, then try again.
