Change, downgrade or cancel your iCloud+ storage plan on a Mac

Why it happens

Your storage plan belongs to your Apple Account, so you change it from the iCloud page in System Settings, not from Finder or iCloud Drive. Every account gets 5 GB free, and iCloud+ plans add more. Prices depend on your country and are shown before you pay.

How to fix it

1. Open the Apple menu, choose System Settings, click your name at the top of the sidebar, then click iCloud.

2. To get more storage on macOS 26, click Manage… next to the storage bar, then Change Storage Plan. On macOS 27, click Manage Plan.

3. Pick the plan size you want and confirm with your Apple Account password or Touch ID. The extra space is ready as soon as you confirm.

4. To move to a smaller plan or cancel, click Manage Plan on the iCloud page and choose a smaller plan or the free 5 GB. The change starts when your current billing period ends.

On macOS 26, upgrading goes through Manage… and then Change Storage Plan, while downgrading uses Manage Plan. On macOS 27, one Manage Plan button on the iCloud page handles all of these.

Still not fixed?

1. Before you downgrade, check how much you use in Manage…. If you're over the smaller plan's size, new photos and files stop uploading, iCloud backups stop finishing and iCloud Mail can't send or receive until you free space.

2. Can't change the plan? If you share iCloud+ through Family Sharing, the family organizer manages the plan. Ask them, or open Family to see who that is.

3. If you pay for Apple One, your iCloud storage comes with that bundle. Change or cancel it under Subscriptions in Media & Purchases.

4. If a payment fails, or you were charged for a plan you cancelled, contact Apple Support. They can see your billing history and sort it out.
