Open Control Center on your Mac for quick settings

Quick answer

Click the Control Center icon, two small switches, near the right end of the menu bar beside the clock. It has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirDrop, Focus, display brightness and sound.

Why it happens

Control Center gathers the settings you change most into one panel, so you don't have to open System Settings each time. It always lives in the menu bar at the top of the screen. If the menu bar is hidden, Control Center is hidden with it.

How to fix it

  1. Look at the top-right of your screen. Next to the date and time is an icon that looks like two small switches. Click it.

  2. Click a button to turn it on or off, such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Drag the Display or Sound slider to change brightness or volume.

  3. Click the name of a control, or the arrow next to it, to see more choices, such as a list of Wi-Fi networks or Bluetooth devices.

  4. Click anywhere outside the panel, or press Esc, to close it.

Control Center opens the same way on macOS 26 and 27. Only the reset button's label changed: Reset Control Center on 26, Reset Control Center… on 27.

Still not fixed?

  1. Want different buttons in Control Center? Open it and click Edit Controls at the bottom to add, remove or move them.

  2. Can't see the menu bar at all? It may be set to hide. Move the pointer to the top of the screen to show it, or set Automatically hide and show the menu bar to Never.

  3. If an app is in full screen, the menu bar hides too. Press Control-Command-F to leave full screen, then click Control Center.

  4. If Control Center opens empty or doesn't respond, try Reset Control Center in Menu Bar settings. On macOS 27 the button reads Reset Control Center….

macOS 27 Golden Gate Menu Bar›Reset Control Center…

  5. If the menu bar still won't respond after a restart, contact Apple Support. That's a software fault worth a proper look, not hardware.
