iCloud Private Relay is blocking a website or network on your Mac
Quick answer
Open System Settings, click your name, then iCloud, click Private Relay and turn it off. To keep it on elsewhere, turn off Limit IP address tracking for just the problem Wi-Fi network instead.
Why it happens
Private Relay sends your Safari browsing through Apple's relays so sites and networks can't see your real IP address. Some work, school and hotel networks block that, and some websites distrust the shared addresses and show captchas or refuse to load. Turning it off, everywhere or for one network, lets you connect the ordinary way.
How to fix it
Choose Apple menu > System Settings and click your name at the top of the sidebar, then click iCloud.
Click Private Relay and turn it off. Try the website or network again.
Apple Account›iCloud›Private Relay
If only one Wi-Fi network has the problem, you can leave Private Relay on and switch it off just there. Open Wi-Fi settings, click Details… next to that network and turn off Limit IP address tracking. Click OK.
Wi-Fi›Details…
Once the site or network works, you can turn Private Relay back on whenever you like. The per-network setting stays off for that network only.
Still not fixed?
On hotel, airport or cafe Wi-Fi, the sign-in page may be what's missing. Turn off any VPN, then open Safari and go to a plain http site such as neverssl.com to bring the login page up. Turn Wi-Fi off and on if it still doesn't appear.
Private Relay covers browsing in Safari. If the same site also fails in other browsers, Private Relay isn't the cause, so check your internet connection or try again later.
Don't see Private Relay? It comes with iCloud+, the paid iCloud plans, and isn't offered in every country or region. Some work and school Macs have it turned off.
If websites think you're in the wrong place, click Private Relay again and set IP address location to Maintain general location.
If Private Relay won't turn off, or a site still won't load with it off and other networks work fine, contact Apple Support or the website's owner.
Questions people ask
How do I turn off Private Relay for just one Wi-Fi network?
Open Wi-Fi settings, click Details… next to the network and turn off Limit IP address tracking. Private Relay stays on everywhere else.
Why does my network say it's blocking Private Relay?
Some work, school and public networks don't allow it. Turn off Limit IP address tracking for that network, or turn Private Relay off.
Why do I keep getting captchas on my Mac?
With Private Relay on, many people share the same addresses, so some sites ask you to prove you're human. Turning it off usually stops them.
