Turn the ChatGPT extension for Siri and Writing Tools on or off

On macOS 26, open System Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri, click ChatGPT and turn Use ChatGPT on or off. On macOS 27, open Siri, click ChatGPT and use the same switch, called Use Extension when Siri AI is on.
Why it happens
Apple Intelligence answers most requests itself, on your Mac or on Apple's servers. With the ChatGPT extension on, Siri and Writing Tools can pass a harder request to ChatGPT, and by default your Mac asks you before anything is sent. Turn the extension off and nothing goes to ChatGPT at all.
How to fix it
Open the Apple menu and choose System Settings.
On macOS 26, click Apple Intelligence & Siri, then ChatGPT. On macOS 27, click Siri, then ChatGPT under Extensions.

On macOS 26 the settings are in Apple Intelligence & Siri. On macOS 27 that pane is called Siri, ChatGPT is listed under Extensions, and with Siri AI (Beta) on the switch is named Use Extension.

Reached the daily limit? Without an account you get basic and advanced features up to a daily limit, and after that advanced ones are restricted for up to 24 hours. Signing in to a ChatGPT account uses your account's own allowance.
Switch greyed out? A school or company may manage your Mac, or Screen Time may limit extensions. Ask whoever set it up.
If ChatGPT still answers after you've turned it off, restart your Mac. If it keeps happening, contact Apple Support.
