Stop your Mac sharing analytics and crash reports
Quick answer
Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements and turn off Share Mac Analytics. Turn off the other switches on that page too if you don't want to share anything.
Why it happens
When you set up a Mac, it asks whether to share diagnostics with Apple, and it's easy to click through and agree. Those reports cover things like crashes and how your Mac is running. Every switch on that page is optional, and turning them off doesn't change how your Mac works.
How to fix it
Click the Apple menu, choose System Settings, then click Privacy & Security in the sidebar.
Scroll right down to the bottom of the page and click Analytics & Improvements.
Privacy & Security›Analytics & Improvements
Turn off Share Mac Analytics. This is the main switch that sends diagnostics and usage data to Apple.

Look at the switches below it, such as Share with app developers, Improve Siri & Dictation (on macOS 27 it may read Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence) and Share iCloud Analytics, and turn off any you don't want. Which ones you see depends on your Mac and what you chose during setup.
Close System Settings. The change takes effect straight away, with no restart needed.
Still not fixed?
If the switches are greyed out, your Mac is probably managed by a school or company, which can set these for you. Ask whoever looks after the Mac.
Ads from Apple in the App Store and Apple News use a separate setting. Open Apple Advertising in Privacy & Security and turn off Personalized Ads if you'd rather not have them.

Some apps have their own crash reports or usage tracking. Check each app's settings, usually found in the menu named after the app, next to the Apple menu.
If a switch keeps turning itself back on after a restart, contact Apple Support so they can look at it with you.
Questions people ask
Is it safe to turn off Share Mac Analytics?
Yes. It only stops your Mac sending reports to Apple. Updates, iCloud and your apps keep working as before.
Does turning off analytics stop crash reports?
It stops your Mac sending them automatically. If an app crashes, you may still see a window offering to send a report, and nothing goes unless you choose to.
Where are the analytics settings on a Mac?
In System Settings, under Privacy & Security, right at the bottom: click Analytics & Improvements.
