Stop seeing unwanted nude photos on your Mac

Quick answer

Turn on Sensitive Content Warning in System Settings > Privacy & Security, then pick the apps it covers, like AirDrop and Messages. Nude photos and videos then arrive blurred, with a warning.

Why it happens

Sensitive Content Warning checks images and videos on your Mac itself before you see them. If one looks like nudity, macOS blurs it and shows a warning on top. The check happens on the device, so Apple doesn't see your photos, and you can still choose to view one.

How to fix it

  1. Open the Apple menu, choose System Settings and click Privacy & Security.

  2. Scroll down, click Sensitive Content Warning and turn the switch on.

  3. Below the main switch, turn on each place you want covered, such as AirDrop and Messages.

  4. Next time an explicit image arrives, it shows blurred with a warning. You can leave it blurred and delete it without ever seeing it.

Still not fixed?

  1. Getting pictures by AirDrop from strangers? Set AirDrop to Contacts Only in General > AirDrop & Continuity, so people you don't know can't send you anything.

  2. Block the person in Messages. Open the conversation, then choose Conversation > Block Person….

  3. Turn the same setting on for your iPhone and iPad too, in Settings > Privacy & Security > Sensitive Content Warning.

  4. For a child's account, use Communication Safety instead. It's in Screen Time on macOS 26 and in Family on macOS 27, and it also gives your child ways to get help.

  5. If someone keeps sending you explicit images or you feel unsafe, keep the messages and report it to the police. Apple Support can help you with blocking and keeping your account safe.
